Tellabs files countersuit against Fujitsu
Telecommunications network equipment maker Tellabs Inc. has filed a countersuit against Japan's Fujitsu Ltd in the latest patent squabble over high-speed networks using fibre-optic cables.
Tokyo/New York: Telecommunications network equipment maker Tellabs Inc. has filed a countersuit against Japan's Fujitsu Ltd in the latest patent squabble over high-speed networks using fibre-optic cables.
The two rivals compete for orders from telecom firms AT&T, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. and Verizon for faster networks that enable computers, phones and other electronics devices to transmit more files, graphics and sound.
Fujitsu, which makes optical and wireless networks, had filed a similar suit against Tellabs in January in a Texas court, claiming infringement of four patents covering optical communication technologies.
Both firms seek monetary damages and injunctions to prevent patent infringement by the other.
Tellabs filed its complaint on Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, saying Fujitsu's reconfigurable multiplexing systems and components in its Flashwave product line infringe on its patents.
