While I'm usually not the one for predictions, Webjam could be the next big social network site. I will say the site is what MySpace should have become.

Webjam combines an application-based platform, similar to Facebook, with the ability to customise and personalise the site, ala MySpace.

That said, my first impression of the site was not good. I was presented with a rather bland looking page with standard boxes: My profile, My friends, etc. Been there, done that.

But after surfing around and seeing what some people had accomplished with their Webjam pages, I went from "bleh" to "How cool is that? How can I do that?"

I took me a few minutes to figure it out, but hidden in tabs labelled "modules" and "styles" are the websites design tools. Using these tools, users can embed customisable polls, write blogs, post photos from third party sites such as Flickr, access and send emails though services such as Gmail and Yahoo, and even have their news delivered to them via an RSS (really simple syndication) reader. Advanced users can even add their own HTML onto their pages. You're not just limited to one either, users can add as many sites as they like.

Privacy

Privacy concerns are also well handled, too. Individuals pages can be hidden from public view, and access to any page can be granted on a case-by-case basis.

This site even one-ups Facebook and MySpace in terms of style, given how easily the page format can be customised.

Headers, navigation bars and fonts can all be changed. There is even an advanced editing feature which allows hard-core users to edit the CSS (cascading style sheets).

If I wanted to mess about with CSS and HTML, I would write my own page. The ability to edit every detail of a site without having to get into the code is going to make this site very popular.
