Phone has powerful specs and features than iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 according to leaked information
Dubai: World’s largest mobile phone manufacturer, Samsung, will be launching its much-hyped phone — Galaxy S4 — in New York at 6pm local time (11pm GMT) to take on Apple in its home market.
The Korean vendor has not revealed its specs, but many pictures and specs have been leaked on the internet. If the leaked specs are correct, then S4 should outperform iPhone 5 in areas such as photography and processing power.
The Galaxy S4 has more powerful specs than the Galaxy S3. Samsung Galaxy S3 has won the best smartphone of the year and device manufacturer of the year awards at the recently held Barcelona Mobile World Congress.
Samsung did not disclose when the product will be available in the UAE. But many retailers said that the product is likely to be available within three weeks.
The five-inch device is slightly larger than its 4.8-inch Galaxy S3 and is powered by 1.9GHz processor and runs on latest Jelly Bean software. The S4 sports a 13 MP camera compared to 8MP of S3.
The company is expected to ship around 80 million units, according to industry experts.
Samsung has sold close to 45 million Galaxy S3 units since May.
Many were expecting Samsung to showcase S4 at Barcelona, but now many vendors are closely following Apple by launching its flagship products at individual events to get attention. HTC launched its HTC One in New York and London last month.
Fierce battle
Both Samsung and Apple are in a fierce battle to take the innovation crown and are in bitter battle over patent lawsuits.
With new launches from Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, BlackBerry10 range of phones and Apple’s new iPhone release, it’s going to be an exciting time ahead for the smartphone industry.
“Samsung will remain the number one smartphone this year also but it will face pressure from othe vendors,” Annette Zimmermann, principal analyst at Gartner, told Gulf News.
She said every vendor is struggling expect Samsung. All other vendors were not able to differentiate from the crowd. HTC and Sony are also struggling.
“Samsung has an advantage compared to other competitors as it is able to reach different price segments and broader market reach with different designs,” she said.
Samsung controls 42.5 per cent of the global Android market and the next closest vendor just occupies a mere six per cent market share.
According to Gartner, Samsung controls 22 per cent of the global handset market share while Nokia controls 19.1 per cent and Apple has 7.5 per cent.
According to industry experts, LG’s Optimus G Pro has some unique features and Chinese vendors — Huawei and ZTE — will also be launching powerful devices and 2013 is the year to watch.
