Dubai: As the Gitex Shopper and Consumer Electronics Expo comes to a close today, organisers and participating vendors are already happy with the results and are confident that this year's event will surpass last year's overall sales and footfall.
No official visitor and sales figures have been released yet, but so far exhibitors have reported selling thousands of laptops, mobile phones and television (TV) sets during the week-long shopping and gaming bonanza at the Airport Expo.
"We can say this year's Gitex Shopper has exceeded last year's sales and footfall. People are still coming to Gitex and looking at what's out there. Besides, our partners have been promoting the event aggressively and we are offering bundles of exciting offers," Trixie Loh, Dubai World Trade Centre senior vice president for exhibitions and events management, told Gulf News.
"Then, there's the gaming element we've added to this year's event. All of these things make the whole Gitex shopping experience at lot more exciting," she said.
Although some leading consumer electronic retailers in the UAE have dropped out of Gitex, Loh said the event has exceeded their expectations because they have enlisted new exhibitors like Etisalat and Acer, two of the leading brands in the IT industry.
Aman Khan, Acer Computers' marketing manager for Middle East, Turkey and Africa, said their experience with Gitex Shopper has so far been excellent since the event has provided his company with the ideal platform to reach out to their customers and let them experience Acer's gaming PC.
"The turnout has exceeded our expectations and with over 800 interested buyers who have registered at the event. We are very happy with the quality of visitors," Khan said.
