Microsoft introduces new operating system as part of its Love campaign

Dubai: Microsoft introduced its new operating system in addition to its latest networking and office products.

Tagged as its Love campaign (Launch of Office, Vista and Exchange), the new products put an end to a five-year wait since Microsoft launched its Windows XP operating system in 2001, according to Charbel Fakhoury, general manager of Microsoft Gulf.

Vista is the name of its new operating system, while Exchange is Micro-soft's email and messaging system.

"The simultaneous launch of Office, Vista and Exchange is an attempt to emphasise the interconnected services of the three products, he said.

"I tell customers they are going to get Office, they think they're getting a new version of excel," he said. "But they are getting much more beyond that - they are getting the integration of office with their portal, the collaborative environment, and messaging systems."

The launch gives Micro-soft business clients access to the new products this month, while consumers will have to wait until January for the general availability launch.

The business world has changed greatly in the last five years, and Fakhoury said the latest products were designed for a world with high-mobility, wide-spread wireless internet access, and elevated security concerns.

"Companies that operate in this part of the world or worldwide are going global," he said. "And if you look at the organisation, they are working in different teams, different departments, with their partners and their customers.

Fakhoury said with WiFi easily available, companies have begun demanding an operating system that allows them to connect with office databases swiftly and securely. "When your employees are mobile, they have to be able to access the same information when they are in the field. What we are offering today is that you can get that secure access, from Wi-fi hotspots that allow you to act as if you are in the corporation."

While Microsoft does not have Mideast sales targets, Fakhoury said he is hoping for a swift adoption rate among existing Microsoft business customers.
