Gulf News readers look forward to Gitex bargains

Annual electronics exhibition offers shoppers opportunity to find deals

Dubai: Gitex Shopper has begun, bringing with it great deals and new products. Gulf News readers have been waiting for just the right moment to purchase their favourite electronic gadgets.

Mohammad Ebrahim, a Pakistani expatriate, has been waiting for Gitex since Ramadan.

He said: "I decided to wait for Gitex to purchase a digital camera as the offers are great. I am also thinking of buying a portable hard drive."

Ebrahim is confident that the prices during Gitex are much lower as compared to the regular deals. "Gitex is definitely the best time to buy electronics," he said.

Irene Quiblatin, a Filipina expatriate, was intrigued by the Gitex brochures and pamphlets.

She said: "I saw a portable table for laptops in one of them and would like to purchase it. It seems quite helpful!"

Quiblatin appreciates the concept of being able to purchase a range of electronics under one roof.

She said: "There is a lot of variety and competition, which allows you to get some really good deals. Additionally, several new products are launched, some of which we have never heard of."

Ayah Nofal Kahook, an American expatriate, agrees that the variety of products available is the most attractive factor.

She said: "It is not about the deals for me, but the fact that you can purchase so many different items in one place makes it impressive. My husband loves technology, so I will end up visiting this year's Gitex."

Ayah is looking forward to purchasing a digital camera.

Syed Azeem Shah, an Indian expatriate, is looking forward to visiting the Gitex Shopper 2009.

He said: "I definitely have a keen interest in the new mobile phones on display and I also want to see the improvements in the new laptops."

Shah appreciates the offers that are up for grabs during the exhibition.

He said: "I have learnt that most people look for freebies and extra items that are available with the electronics. The later in the week you go, the more things you purchase as the promotions get better. You get the best deals and you could end up saving a lot."

Fateh Ermihan, a Turkish expatriate, believes that the prices could still be lower.

He said: "Gitex does have good prices, but when you compare them to international standards, they are still steep."

Samuel Jeypaul, an Indian expatriate, holds similar views.

He said: "I do not think it is the ideal time to purchase the latest gadgets, as they sometimes tend to get lost in the Gitex crowd. There are some nice promotions and you do get added benefits. But I'd rather wait till January, as the prices are bound to fall."

Jeypaul, however, is keen on discovering the new Windows 7.

"I already have a laptop, but I may just buy a new one in order to try the Windows 7," he said.
