Growing need for e-services
Dubai eGovernment says the future's electronic
Dubai: eGovernment, the department for supervising the city's electronic transformation, is preparing various gateways as it sees a growing need for e-services.
"When the government departments decide to offer an e-service, we make sure that the gateway is ready," said Ahmad Bin Humaidan, director general of Dubai eGovernment.
He said one direction the department is working in is the integration of government departments. "Its not a technology but the need itself to connect the different departments' applications. We want to make it simple for the customers," he said.
The department is signing up with various local companies to further the development of e-services. Yesterday, it signed up with Dubai Islamic Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank for the service of ‘Direct Debit' under its ePayment gateway. The service will allow the customers to make electronic payments. The facility will have an advantage over making payments with a credit card. It does not set a limit on the transaction amount. The department now has five banks on the gateway.
Since the launch of the ePayment gateway, Dubai eGovernment has recorded over one million transactions at a total value of Dh1 billion.
