Experts say standard in Dubai must improve

Dubai: Some experts in Dubai are concerned that we should be receiving better service when it comes to communications such as internet connection and mobile phone packages.
James Mathews, senior consultant at Unlimited IT, says the standard of communications in Dubai is behind when compared with other markets and that only by increasing the number of pro-viders can we expect a better service and more competitive prices.
"Elsewhere around the world, standards of service are much higher and at cheaper cost to the consumer. In the UK for example, you have at least six mobile service providers and many more internet service providers. You can get a full home internet, mobile, landline and cable TV package for the price of a home internet connection here in the UAE."
However, Ramin Attari, vice president of Nortel in the Middle East, says the region realises the importance of competition and is now starting to address the issue of service differentiation.
"Service differentiation enables more competition and more competition allows better service for customers. The Middle East is now seeing the emphasis on service providers moving to service differentiation."
