Acer eyes top global spot in notebook retailing
Acer is looking at becoming the global leader in notebooks by 2011, a top company official said on Wednesday.
Dubai: Acer is looking at becoming the global leader in notebooks by 2011, a top company official said on Wednesday.
Currently, Hewlett Packard (HP) holds the number one position in the world as the IT hardware vendor but Acer has overtaken its position in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Emanuele Accolla, vice-president for EMEA, Acer, said: "We are not far behind HP in notebook sales."
Industry reports rank Acer as the number three vendor for total PC sales worldwide and number two for notebooks. The company has seen consolidated growth in revenues of 31 per cent globally for the first three quarters of this year, compared to that of the previous year. Its net revenues for the period were $12.8 billion.
Growth target
Accolla said the company would need less than 35 per cent annual growth to reach their goal as notebook market leader by 2011.
"We do not have plans to be number one worldwide in immediate terms. We want to become a $30 billion company, and this year we will be close to $20 billion," Accolla said.
