DP World boosts global operations with new cranes
Flow of goods and supply chain to improve
Dubai: DP World, the world's fourth largest ports operator, on Wednesday received an array of cranes in Algeria and India, boosting its service and handling capacity.
DP World Djazair, a joint venture between DP World and the Algiers Port Authority (EPAL), received two mobile harbour cranes (MHCs), marking an increased investment in the facility, where it has a 30-year concession.
The cranes will improve the supply chain and flow of goods for importers and exporters. DP World Djazair handles more than 60 per cent of Algiers' container volumes.
Meanwhile, its operations in Cochin, India come closer to initiation planned for later this year with the arrival of four giant gantry Post Panamax quay cranes.
At what will be India's first dedicated transhipment terminal, the cranes will service the new terminal's 600 metre quay and 40 hectares of yard. The ZPMC barge MV Zhenhua is now berthed and over the next four days the cranes will be offloaded, and the commissioning process will begin, the company said yesterday.
