Abu Dhabi: Two oil berths costing Dh100 million will be constructed at Fujairah port, rising the number of oil berths to 12 and the port’s to 20.
Aiming to provide ships with fuel, the two berths will have a total handling capacity of 100 million tons — or 750 million oil barrels — annually.
Khalil Ibrahim, chief financial officer of Fujairah port, made the announcement during a special interview with Abu Dhabi channel.
A new mini port is currently under construction with a primary capacity that can handle 150 ships. The mini-port, which is being implemented at a total cost of Dh220 million in the first stage, aims to avoid traffic congestion in the current port and will be inaugurated a year from now, he added.
Ebrahim said that the new developments at Fujairah port are in line with the accelerating growth of the port and its services.
He pointed out that Fujairah port receives 5,500 ships annually and several more when it comes to logistic services in the anchorage area off the port.
