Dubai: Dubai developer Nakheel said on Wednesday it has awarded a Dh117.5 million contract to construct a 375,000 square foot complex at Dragon City in Dubai.
Nakheel has awarded the contract to Dubai-based Al Ghurair Contracting & Engineering Works, according to a company statement.
The complex will have 18 showrooms and a 900-space car park, as per the statement. Construction will begin in October and will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2018. All 118,000 square feet of leasing space has already been booked, Nakheel said.
Dragon City is the home of the Dragon Mart shopping centre.
The announcement comes a day after Nakheel awarded a Dh1.5 billion contract to Abu Dhabi-based Dhabi Contracting to develop Al Khail Avenue in Dubai.
Series of projects
In February, Dragon Mart 2, a Dh1 billion extension to the shopping centre, opened. The extension, which doubled the size of the shopping centre to 3.5 million square feet, features 1,100 shops, Novo Cinemas, Geant Supermarket, two hotels and 1,120 apartments.
A series of hospitality, retail and residential projects in Dragon City will increase the development’s size to 11 million square feet, Nakheel said.
The Al Khail Avenue development, located near Jumeirah Village Triangle, includes a 252-room hotel. Construction begins in October, Nakheel said on Tuesday. Al Khail Avenue will feature 350 shops and a 14 screen cinema. Construction on that project is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.
