Dubai: Bundoo Khan, Pakistan's favourite eatery, has upped its game to offer high-end services in Dubai. Clover Creek Hotel Apartments has taken that street concept and turned it into a fine dining destination.

The restaurant has refurbished both its interiors and menu to appeal to a different type of clientele. For both Pakistani nationals and non-nationals trying it out for the first time, the menu offers traditional grilled and charbroiled Pakistani food. "The menu is the same, the food is the same, even the cooks are the same," said Usman Sadiq, assistant director for food and beverages at Clover Creek Hotel.

"We have added a bit more to the menu; the atmosphere and ambience have been made more upscale."

Bundoo Khan opened its doors in the early 1950s as a small restaurant on Regal Chowk in Karachi serving the Pakistani staples of parathas (an Indian flat bread) and kebabs. It slowly became one of the most popular eateries in the city.

"I remember being taken to Bundoo Khan as a child and sitting in the mud huts eating their BBQ speciality," said Sadiq. "A lot of Pakistanis come back for the nostalgic taste."

Its popularity with Pakistani expatriates prompted its expansion to Houston, London and Sydney and, most recently, Dubai.

In keeping with the theme, the restaurant plays a constant stream of music by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam and Ahmad Jehanzeb.

The restaurant has a few charpoys (traditional cots) as is the tradition in Pakistani villages. The glasses used are made of aluminium and the waiters wear a dull orange shalwar kameez (traditional Pakistani dress).

The restaurant, located on the first floor of the hotel, currently serves 100 covers a day. According to Sadiq, they will be expanding the concept to the other Clover Creek Hotel outlets.
