Dubai: Nakheel yesterday said, it has completed the handover of all 387 buildings in International City.

All 387 buildings have been handed over to owners and residents across all nine internationally- themed precincts that make up the Residential District of International City. These buildings comprise more than 22,000 apartments and will be home to about 70,000 residents.

Rashid Obaid Al Helli, director of International City, said: "We are delighted with the delivery of International City.

"With more than 50,000 residents already living there, it is becoming not only a great place to live but a great community. We are thrilled to see the hard work that has gone into creating this development pay off.

"With landscaping well under way and a number of retail offerings now open, International City is an attractive option for a diverse range of people to call home."

International City began construction in 2003 and comprises the Residential District, which includes 387 buildings, and the Central District which has 34 plots that are currently under construction by private developers. Neighbouring developments include the Dragon Mart Complex and Al Warsan Lake.

The nine internationally themed communities that make up the Residential District of International City are: China, England, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Persia and Russia.

Situated 12 km from Dubai International Airport, International City's location, combined with its affordability, make it an instant magnet for local and international businesses, retailers, commercial establishments, traders, residents and tourists.

The project was designed as an integrated multi-purpose development to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing in Dubai. International City will be home to more than 70,000 people by the end of 2008.
