Dubai: Emaar Properties said on Monday that its Burj Dubai tower, the world's tallest, will be delayed by another eight to nine months.
In early March this year the company had said the completion of work is about four months behind schedule. However, it said it planned to complete the tower in 2008.
"Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building being developed by Emaar Properties is an iconic project that is pushing the frontiers of engineering, construction and architecture, and will be completed in September 2009," a spokesperson for the company said in a statement on Monday.
Burj Dubai is part of a $20 billion Burj Dubai development, which includes a shopping mall, hotels, and residential buildings. Dubai Mall, part of the Burj Dubai development, will have more than 100 stores when complete.
"The luxury finishes that were decided on in 2004, when the tower was initially conceptualized, is now being replaced by upgraded finishes. The design of the apartments has also been enhanced to make them more aesthetically attractive and functionally superior," the company spokesperson said.
Residential apartments in the development were reselling in the secondary market for $2,000 per square foot and office space near the top of the tower was selling for $4,000 per square foot.
The company said on Monday that World-class designers were brought in from California to revisit the interior design, and accordingly all apartments are being upgraded following a redesign process that took two to three months.
"By ensuring upgraded apartments and living environments in Burj Dubai, Emaar reiterates its commitment to offer a world-class, one-of-its-kind project," the company said.
