Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser of the UAE, officially inaugurated the 16th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (Adipec) in the capital on Sunday.
Adipec 2013 is organised under the patronage of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and supported by Adnoc, the Ministry of Energy and Abu Dhabi Chamber.
Themed “Energy for all in a Changing World”, Adipec 2013 is the largest regional event in the gas and oil sector, taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) in Abu Dhabi, and concluding on November 13.
During his opening address to some of the world’s most important energy leaders, His Excellency Suhail Mohammad Al Mazroui, Minister of Energy, UAE, said: “Adipec 2013 is an outstanding forum to directly discuss pressing issues facing the all-important oil and gas industry. As one of the major producers in the world, the UAE and Abu Dhabi continue to lead the way as a global hub for technology and innovation. Important changes are taking place as part of the shifting energy balance: the UAE has decided to be part and embrace this change, while remaining a reliable source and supplier of hydrocarbon to the world.”
Shifting energy balance
Abdullah Nasser Al Suwaidi, Director General of Adnoc, said: “This event is held at a pivotal time in our region, when the shifting energy balance is shaping the future of global economic growth. Oil and gas remain at the centre of this balance and Adnoc continues to ensure a safe oil and gas supply globally, working towards increasing output to 4.5 million tonnes by mid-2014.”
Over the four days, leading experts from around the world will discuss opportunities and challenges posed by an evolving energy landscape, in the presence of over 50,000 energy professionals from across the globe.
The event will also explore the growing demand for the empowerment of women in the oil and gas sector and the need for the industry to encourage and inspire young people to take up careers in gas and oil.
Mohammad A. Sahoo Al Suwaidi, Director, Gas Directorate, Adnoc, and Chairman, Adipec 2013 Conference, said: “What began as a small gathering of petrol engineers in 1984, ended up being the largest oil and gas conference in this region, and amongst the top three in the world. This year is special to us, because from now on, Adipec is annual. This region’s thirst for energy has never been higher: Young people will be driving this innovation and the workforce will expand to include new generations and more women in leadership positions.”
