Abu Dhabi: The National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) said yesterday it has been awarded a $227 million (Dh834 million) engineering, procurement and construction contract by India's Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), for a wellhead platforms project at the offshore Mumbai High Field.

The contract was signed on January 7 by NPCC's Chief Executive Officer Aqeel Madhi and representatives from ONGC, an Indian government company.

The scope of work under the above project consists of survey, design and detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, hook-up, pre-commissioning and commissioning of the platforms. The overall project completion is scheduled for April 30, 2012.

Stiff competition

NPCC said the contract has been won "amidst stiff competition wherein 11 international and domestic bidders submitted their bids".

NPCC has successfully executed several projects for ONGC in the past, the recent being the wellhead platforms project completed in April 2007 and another completed in April 2009. NPCC is presently executing two such projects for ONGC with scheduled completion pre-monsoon 2011.

"NPCC would execute the newly awarded project which has a tight completion schedule with its dedicated management, experienced and committed project team," a company spokesperson said.

"We are working in total compliance with the client's requirements assuring timely completion with highest quality and safety standards."

He added that "NPCC's successful history in India, in particular with ONGC, goes back in time to over 25 years. Several large EPC contracts were executed for its prestigious and respectful client."

NPCC said that the continuing relationship that NPCC has established with ONGC and the prospects seen for future developments in the offshore oil and gas industry have prompted the company to start its first expansion by establishing a design centre in Mumbai in 2007 to be within close proximity of its esteemed clients and to better serve the India market.

New venture

NPCC chief executive officer Aqeel A. Madhi stated that in less than four years of operation, this new venture has executed several engineering and design projects to the full satisfaction of its clients including ONGC.

He assured Indian officials of NPCC's commitment to complete the ongoing ONGC projects on time to client satisfaction. The projects are B-22 with value of $278 million, RS-12 with value of $163 million and the latest B series project with value of $227 million totalling 668 million US Dollars. The CEO also committed to enhance NPCC presence in India's oil and gas project sector.
