Prices of many essential commodities fall
Abu Dhabi Planning and Economy Department finds 44% of goods have become cheaper.
Dubai: Prices of 44 per cent of essential commodities have declined in Abu Dhabi this month, according to the latest findings by Abu Dhabi Planning and Economy Department.
The latest Abu Dhabi price index revealed that about 12 per cent of commodities retained prices.
"The price index, issued in the third week of December by the Statistics section at the Planning and Economy Department, showed that there was a slight price increase in the bread and cereal category, which ranged between 1 and 3 per cent," a statement said.
The news comes as a relief to the country's consumers who have suffered badly due to food price and commodities price inflation that wiped off a substancial portion of their income.
The average basmati rice price increased from Dh34.9 in the fourth week of November to Dh35.95, while the price of flour No 2 dropped by 4.4 per cent.
As for meat and poultry, some saw a slight increase, such as the kilogram price of ground beef, which increased from Dh23.6 to 24.6, while others remained unchanged.
The prices of fish and seafood dropped, with Kanaad price falling by 3.1 per cent, Hamour by 0.7 per cent and Shaari by 1.1 per cent. Eggs dropped from Dh23.5 to 19.35 per kg.
Have you noticed a decrease in the price of commodities? Or has your neighbourhood retailer increased prices during the festive season? Do you expect prices of commodities to become more affordable in the coming year?
