Prices of basic commodities remain high
As the year approaches its third quarter, prices of basic commodities remain ominously high.

Dubai: As the year approaches its third quarter, prices of basic commodities remain ominously high.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Economy (MoE), prices have increased in most basic commodities, particularly among various varieties of meat and fish.
A kilo of local Sultan Ebrahim fish is sold in Carrefour Abu Dhabi for as high as Dh22.95, up from last month's Dh18.95, an increase of Dh4.
LuLu Centre Abu Dhabi offers the same variety at Dh22.50, up from Dh18.75 or a Dh3.75 increase.
A kilo of imported Indian veal boneless sold in LuLu Centre Dubai at Dh18.90, up from 17.90, while Union Cooperative Society sells it for Dh22.90, the same as last month's price.
The prices of many other essential goods have likewise gone up. Figures of the basic commodities for the rest of the stores covered by the ministry's weekly survey, however, were not available. The data released by the Ministry of Economy shows that LuLu Centre is this week's top pick with the best prices among retailers.
The Ministry of Economy collated the prices last Monday and covered around 39 commodities.
