Dubai: To commemorate the holy month of Ramadan, Emirates Cooperative Society, a supermarket chain in Dubai, is reducing prices on essential goods from five to 30 per cent starting on Thursday at all its branches located in Garhoud, Safouh, Jaffliya, Mizhar-2, Twar-3 and Hatta.
"This is to help our local and expatriate customers against the increasing food price, to keep the spirit of giving this Ramadan and as per the instructions of the board of directors and also in line with the country-wide campaign launched by UAE government to prevent any possible manipulation of prices by some traders during the holy month," said Farid Al Shamandy, acting General Manager of Emirates Cooperative Society.
"This Ramadan we are providing our customers with a variety of selections at low prices; the items include rice, oil, frozen chicken, fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, sugar, vimto, flour, powder milk, canned foods plus non food items like aluminium foil, plastic plates, electronic items and household items,'' Farid said.
"We are also providing our customers with the option of a wholesale Ramadan basket for Dh300; this basket will include items like Pakistani rice 20kg, flour 10kg, sugar 10kg, oil 1.8ltr, powder milk 2.5kg and tomato paste 100 pcs. We have directly imported the rice from Pakistan, which is of high quality and less than the market price. We are selling it for Dh30 to Dh40. An Import-Export department has been set up as per the strategic plan of the board of directors to control prices on essential items. We currently import around 300 items directly to support our customers," Farid added.
