Google optimistic about talks
The company said on March 2 it hasn't set a deadline for ending the censorship
Abu Dhabi: Google, in talks with China after saying it will stop censoring internet search results there, said the discussions will yield results soon.
"We decided not to publicise our dealings with China," Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt said Wednesday at a media conference in Abu Dhabi.
"We're in active talks with the Chinese government and we have no specific timetable, but something will happen soon."
Censorship
Google, owner of the most-used search engine, said on January 12 it will stop filtering results in China after what it called an infiltration of its technology and the e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists.
The company said on March 2 it hasn't set a deadline for ending the censorship.
Schmidt declined to elaborate further on the talks with China or the source of the cyber attack. The Chinese government has denied any involvement in the incident.
