Abu Dhabi: The Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones (Zones-corp) has succeeded in applying some of the finest standards adopted in the UAE, a senior official said on Wednesday.

"This results in better government support for local industries, through enhancing the quality and cutting costs," said Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy.

Initiative

"Among our leading applications is the single-window-project, simplifying procedures and cutting time and cost," said Engineer Jaber Hareb Al Khaili, Zonescorp's chief executive officer.

"Through this facility, investors do not need to go anywhere else to apply for licences, registration, or even visa applications for their employees."

Accordingly, the time factor is reduced from six months to 10 up to 30 days for construction licensing, and less than a day for the industrial licensing.

Labour

Other services the corporation provides include foreign labour services in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, which has authorised Zonescorp to issue necessary visas in a record time, while exempting investors from depositing any guarantees for their labour, a facility that cuts the visa costs by 50 per cent.

"We also provide for the best labour housing standards worldwide, with six square metres allocation for each worker," Al Khaili said.

The first labour housing complex has already been established for 30,000 workers and the company intends to increase this capacity to 500,000.
