UAE ministry orders crackdown on illegal decoders
The UAE Ministry of Economy has ordered port authorities across the UAE to step up measures to confiscate satellite TV decoders being imported illegally into the country.
Dubai: The UAE Ministry of Economy has ordered port authorities across the UAE to step up measures to confiscate satellite TV decoders being imported illegally into the country.
The ministry also issued a fresh warning to those involved in illegally importing the decoders, which decrypt pay TV channels and violate the UAE's copyright law. The Dubai police have already conducted several raids.
“We will not show any leniency to violators of Intellectual Property Rights; it is high time that traders and users of pirated and illegally imported decoders are held responsible for the consequences of their actions,'' the Ministry of Economy said.
Other countries in the region will soon adopt similar measures that will curb the entry of illegal decoders into their country, the ministry said.
