Dubai: Tight security measures and active cooperation between Dubai authorities led to the successful opening cermony of Burj Khalifa, Major General Mohammad Eid Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency Department at Dubai Police told Gulf News.

"It was a hard but successful task," Al Mansouri said, "The number of people who came to watch the ceremony was beyond all expectations. The crowds were incredible and all wanted to get inside Burj Park Island.”

However, he added: "Thank God we didn't face any security problems at the event. Although the crowds were unexpected, everything was under control. Our agents were stationed in and around the location and on standby for any incident. They provided safety and security for the public and protected assets as well."

The whole location was monitored by surveillance cameras that were connected directly to a command and control room inside the Burj, he said.

Al Mansouri said: "Although there were traffic jams we did not block any of the roads or parking, allowing the biggest number of the public to come and enjoy the opening cermony."
