Abu Dhabi: The number of registered commercial trade names in Abu Dhabi has surged by more than 42.7 per cent in 2007 compared to 2006, officials announced on Tuesday.
The progress of the emirate's economic development was reflected in the figures announced yesterday by the Commercial Affairs section at the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy (DPE).
"The 42.7 per cent annual increase in commercial trade names in 2007 comes against a 32.7 per cent growth in the previous year, while this year's statistics are the most accurate ever in the history of DPE after synchronising the database systems in all the regions," Hamad Al Nuaimi, the sector's acting assistant undersecretary, said on Tuesday.
The number of commercial licences has also grown by 37.8 per cent in 2007, as well as the number of registered institutions which has grown by a similar rate of 38.4 per cent.
"The number of licences issued for the public sector has exceeded 10,200 in 2007 compared to 4,877 in 2006," Al Nuaimi revealed, marking the strong growth of the public sector in Abu Dhabi, as more and more institutions and companies come in the streamline of economic activity.
