Mohammad visit boosts cooperation with India

Dubai ruler's second visit in two years will enhance bilateral ties

New Delhi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday resturned to Dubai after a short visit to India.

Shaikh Mohammad met Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at the Prime Minister's Office in the Indian capital.

Shaikh Mohammad and Dr Singh reviewed a number of regional and international economic and political issues and discussed ways to enhance peace and stability to achieve the minimum standard of living, prosperity, education and healthcare for people.

They also held talks on the mechanisms to expand cooperation between the UAE and India in economic, cultural and other areas.

Dr Singh welcomed Shaikh Mohammad to India, describing the visit as a continuation of the friendly relationship between the two countries. He added that this visit provides an impetus for strengthening bilateral ties.

The meeting was attended by Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, Mohammad Ebrahim Al Shaibani, Director of the Office of the Ruler of Dubai, Mohammad Sultan Al Owais, UAE Ambassador to India and a number of Indian officials.

Earlier yesterday, Shaikh Mohammad was received at the international airport in New Delhi by Shashi Tharoor, India's Minister of State for External Affairs.

Shaikh Mohammad is heading a high level delegation to India.

India is one of the UAE's largest trading partners. This is his second visit to India in less than two years. Dubai's large corporations, Emaar Properties, Nakheel, DP World, DM Healthcare, ETA-Ascon Group have massive investments in India. The UAE is also one of the largest sources of remittances to India.

Shaikh Mohammad was seen off at Dubai International airport by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture.
