Industries to gain from standardisation certificates
The UAE's national standardisation certificate will provide local producers with easier access to the GCC markets as well as other international markets, a senior official said on Saturday.
Abu Dhabi: The UAE's national standardisation certificate will provide local producers with easier access to the GCC markets as well as other international markets, a senior official said on Saturday.
The Emirates Standardisation and Metrology Authority (Esma) has issued about 3,600 standards so far pertaining to more than 1,200 products and commodities, while more standards are being studied as part of implementing an internationally recognised comprehensive national standardisation system.
"Products and goods bearing the standardisation certificate will gain easier access to the GCC markets, as well as many other countries that have signed agreements with the authority," Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, said on the occasion of granting standardisation certificate for Qatar Steel's rebar products.
Many industrial establishments have complained of the lack of a comprehensive national system adopted by the public and private sector in the country to provide for an advantage for locally manufactured products.
"The certification will entail certain benefits, while ensuring better quality and a more mature national production," the minister said.
