Firms will be honoured for good work practice
Emirates Environmental Group launched an award yesterday to honour companies for good business practises for a better and sustainable future.

Dubai: Emirates Environmental Group launched an award yesterday to honour companies for good business practises for a better and sustainable future.
"The aim is to recognise firms for their commitment, ingenuity, innovation, leadership; benchmark performance and identify a business model based on corporate social responsibility [CSR]," said group chairperson Habiba Marashi.
The award will be given to companies here or around the region. She said workshops, seminars and training have helped to build capacity of the group members and stakeholders.
"We have been able to develop a CSR website, and a case by case compilation of best practices to enable knowledge and awareness building on social responsibility," said Habiba. The announcement has met with considerable enthusiasm and interest from the CSR players across sectors.
What singles out this initiative is its inclusive nature. Supported by the United Nations Global Compact, and by a range of business leaders, think tanks and academics, the awards have the potential to become the biggest in the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The need for the award is felt most acutely now that companies in the region have taken a lively and productive interest in engaging more actively with communities, opting for eco-friendly practices, improving quality and performance and supporting social and cultural issues and causes.
The award will be opened for applications from May 22. A grand ceremony to honour winners will take place in October.
