Dubai: DP World Caucedo, the Dominican Republic’s primary port, has welcomed True North, the 70-foot yacht that embarked on a circumnavigation of the globe last summer to raise awareness for the UAE’s bid to host the World Expo 2020 in Dubai.

A special reception at Caucedo was held for the crew of True North, whose voyage reflects the UAE’s bid theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, and aligns with DP World’s programme for promoting the bid through its family of 30,000 people working in over 60 terminals worldwide.

DP World is a premier partner of Dubai’s bid for Expo 2020 and is committed to showcasing the UAE’s capabilities to host this significant event using its global geographical presence.

Mohammad Sharaf, Group CEO, DP World, said: “As the Expo 2020 bid committee visits the UAE on a fact-finding mission, we are pleased to be able to highlight the awareness of Dubai’s bid gaining attention around the world, including at our terminal in the Dominican Republic. Dubai and the UAE stand at the crossroads of world trade and the arrival of the yacht at Caucedo underlines the capabilities of our country on the world stage.”

Matthew Leech, senior vice-president and managing director of DP World in the Americas Region, said: “We are delighted with the visit of True North to our port where it was received with enthusiasm and interest from our customers, our staff and the media, serving its mission of spreading awareness about Dubai’s bid for Expo 2020.”

DP World Caucedo is located approximately 30 minutes from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, and is located near the country’s airport, freezone parks and logistics centres. It is the most modern and largest deep-water container port in the country, and with 1.4 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units) capacity. It offers a range of services designed to meet all local and trans-shipment needs.
