BBC likely to see sharp dip in profits

London: BBC Worldwide, the corporation's commercial arm led by Chief Executive John Smith, is expected to report a sharp dip in profits when results for the year to the end of March are published on Monday.
The division, which runs channels such as UKTV and sells BBC programmes and channels overseas, is likely to see profits fall to less than £100 million (Dh595 million) compared with £118 million last year.
The decline is likely to be blamed on increased levels of investment, including new television channel launches around the world, as well as acquisitions and the roll-out of international production businesses.
Smith has been suggested as a possible replacement for ITV Chief Executive Michael Grade, who has stepped back to become chairman.
