The proposed Strategic Plan of Dubai Police aims to develop partnerships and make international contributions. As part of its Strategic Plan, the Dubai Police will specify officers to study professionalism in security fields and prepare them to be international experts in combating drugs, said Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police.

The Dubai Police presented its proposed Strategic Plan based on the Dubai Government Strategic Plan for 2007-2015.

The Strategic Plan 2008-2015 was proposed in early May to partners of the Dubai Police, including various government departments, companies and establishments, for modifications and suggestions for improvement.

According to Lieutenant General Tamim, in the coming years there will be 10 officers specialised in combating drugs who will be authorised by the United Nations to spread awareness on the issue anywhere in the world.

International experts

"We aim at making our officers international experts who can assist in solving international cases. Our work would not only be confined to local levels, but we want to make international contributions," he said.

"Dubai Police's Strategic Plan is no longer concerned with Dubai Police only. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, wanted us to change the
old thinking and develop partnerships with each other."

Rapid action

Lieutenant General Dahi pointed out the example of the Wafi City robbery which, he feels, has affected everyone, creating a sense of danger.

"When the arrests happened and the stolen jewellery was brought back, we started receiving messages and letters on our telephones, TVs and radio stations congratulating us. This proves that everyone is a partner in Dubai Police's Strategic Plan," he said.

Professional approach

According to the proposed Strategic Plan, Dubai Police's vision is "security... the mainstay of development. We, as a police force, commit ourselves to ensure a safe and secure society and maintain public order in an efficient and international manner professionally," said Lieutenant General Dahi.

"Our message is deep-rooted sense of security, guaranteed — not infringed — rights and services that satisfy people," he said.

Objectives

Dubai Police's objectives include maintaining rights and freedom, crime prevention, crime detection and arrest, road safety control and efficient disaster and crisis management.

The proposed plan's presentation also included discussions on some changes suggested in the Vision 2015 and messages by representatives of various establishments.
