Abu Dhabi: The bi-annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (Adipec), the largest oil and gas event outside of North America, opened yesterday in the capital.

The attendance of Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nah-yan, National Security Adviser, marked the official opening of the four-day event. Adipec 2010 is expected to generate more than Dh600 million in benefits for Abu Dhabi and over $1 billion in deals.

The 14th edition of Adipec is expected to attract 10,000 visitors on day one, the event's organisers said. Adipec brings together energy ministers, vice-presidents, CEOs and exhibitors from around the region and the global energy sector.

"Adipec reflects the status of Abu Dhabi as a knowledge hub for the oil and gas industry and it sets the stage for companies to come to Abu Dhabi to make business deals, forge new contacts, showcase their technologies and services, and to get involved in strategic and policy-shaping discussions," Adipec Conference Chairman Abdul Munim Saif Al Kindy.

"We are confident the next four days will not only be a great success but will be pivotal for the regional and international industry," he added.
