Abu Dhabi, UK agree to cooperation in customs matters
Abu Dhabi Customs, one of Abu Dhabi's Department of Finance (DoF) directorates, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to bolster mutual administrative assistance and cooperation in the field of customs.
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Customs, one of Abu Dhabi's Department of Finance (DoF) directorates, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to bolster mutual administrative assistance and cooperation in the field of customs.
The MoU, the first of its kind concluded by Abu Dhabi, was signed by Hamad Al Hurr Al Suwaidi, DoF's Undersecretary, and Euan Stewart, Director of Criminal Investigation Operations, Customs Administration of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, in the presence of Saeed Al Muhairi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Customs and Deputy United Kingdom Ambassador Ian Wood, as well as senior representatives from Abu Dhabi and Her Majesty's Customs.
Under the terms of the MoU, which follows UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown's visit to the UAE, all assistance by either customs administration will be provided in accordance with its national legal and administrative provision and within the limits of its competence and available resources.
Each customs administration will provide the other, upon its own will or request, with information which helps to ensure the proper application of customs law and the prevention, investigation and combating of irrespective actions against customs.
Such information may include new customs laws enforcement techniques, emerging and fresh means and methods of committing undesirable actions against customs, including the transport and the storage of goods that might be classified under undesirable actions category.
