Dubai: A delegation from the Dubai Economic Council (DEC) visited the United States recently. The group was led by Secretary General Hani Al Hameli.

The secretary general said the main aim of the visit was to forge strategic partnerships with a number of international organisations to improve the economic ties with the US, which is the main trade partner of the UAE and Dubai.

Al Hameli pointed out that the UAE and the US had unique economic relations. The volume of trade between the two countries was $18 billion (Dh66 billion) in 2011, a 43 per cent increase compared to 2010. The US exports to the UAE increased by about a third last year.

The delegation visited the Commercial Law Development Programme (CLDP), where the Secretary General signed a Letter of Intent.

They also visited the US Department of Commerce for International Trade and met with Under-Secretary Francisco Sanchez.
