MAF Shopping plans second mall in Oman
It will be located in Qurum district and will have a built-up area of 155,400 square metres.
Muscat: MAF Shopping Malls, the leading developer of shopping centres in the Middle East and North Africa, will open its second venture in Oman - Qurum City Centre - by the end of third quarter of this year, according to a company statement on Tuesday.
The 26 million Omani riyal mall is strategically located in the commercial hub of up-market Qurum district and will have a built-up area of 155,400 square metres, out of which 20,000 square metres will be the Gross Leasable Area (GLA).
The current Muscat City Centre has 60,484 square metres GLA.
With work already in progress, Qurum City Centre currently employs more than 500 construction workers and is expected to generate over 800 job opportunities, out of which 400 vacancies will go to Omanis.
"Qurum City Centre is situated at prime location - in Qurum commercial area - is expected to attract a large population of shoppers from Bausher, Muttrah, Muscat and Al Amerat," said Ebrahim Al Qasimi, spokesperson for Qurum City Centre.
Easy access
"The centre can be easily accessed both from the Sultan Qaboos Highway and from the soon-to-be-ready Southern Express Highway, adjacent to the mall," he added.
On completion, Qurum City Centre will house more than 75 retail outlets with anchor store Carrefour and popular brands like H&M, BHS, Mango and Borders. The merchandise mix will include strong representation in key categories such as fashion, F&B and other convenience and service sectors.
The new mall will have a designated food court and convenient access.
