Abu Dhabi: DP World Group Chairman & CEO and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation Sultan Bin Sulayem revealed the value of Dubai’s information technology trade figures in the first half of 2017 which is Dh134.5b, including Dh86.8b of imports, and Dh47.7b of exports and re-exports.
China topped the list of Dubai trade partners with Dh53.3b in imports, followed by Vietnam (Dh14.4b worth of trade), the USA (Dh2.3b), South Korea (Dh2.14b), and Japan (Dh1.64b).
As for exports and re-exports, Saudi Arabia topped the list with Dh9.5b, followed by Iraq (Dh3086b), Kuwait (Dh2.7b), Egypt (Dh2.22b), and the USA (Dh1.4b).
The value of Dubai trade in mobile phones reached Dh75.9b, laptops (Dh11b), and desktops (Dh2.3b).
Bin Sulayem expects more momentum and huge growth in the information technology sectors in the few coming years taken into account the big projects Dubai embarking on in preparation for the next Dubai Expo 2020. These will include development of new cities and tourism and business facilities.
