DCCI sees tourism opportunities
Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, yesterday encouraged traders to look at investment opportunities in the Philippines and called for stronger relations between Emirati and Filipino businessmen.
Dubai: Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Sunday encouraged traders to look at investment opportunities in the Philippines and called for stronger relations between Emirati and Filipino businessmen.
"We can see opportunities in the Philippines in terms of tourism and what we can develop over there. We also have to acknowledge that the Philippines can provide the technical know-how and the workforce that is required for the next stage of development," said Al Tayer.
Speaking at the business luncheon in honour of Philippine President Gloria Arroyo, Al Tayer acknowledged the Filipino community, which he said has helped Dubai become a major tourism and financial hub. There are 75 Filipino companies in Dubai.

"To be where we are today, we have to acknowledge that the Filipino community has played a major part of this growth.
"So it is for us now to look forward to how we can improve our trade with the Philippines. And it is our goal to open the dialogue between the various communities and to improve our economic relationship further," Al Tayer said.
The luncheon was attended by DCCI officials, representatives of top economic organisations, businessmen and investors from Dubai, as well as over 60 delegates from the Philippines.
