World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi project to be completed in 2014

Marriott Courtyard —a four-star hotel to be ready early next year

Abu Dhabi:

Aldar Properties, Abu Dhabi’s largest real estate developer by market capitalisation will complete all the components of World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi by 2014, according to a senior Aldar executive.

“The residential tower at the World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi will be completed by the end of this year, the Souk is already in operation, the mall would be ready in the third quarter this year, the office towers building is completed and a four-star hotel — the 15 storey Marriott Courtyard will be ready early next year,” the Aldar executive told Gulf News, providing the timeline of completion for various elements of the mega-project.

The World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi project was previously known as the Central Market project. When the project was announced, the cost of building the project was estimated at Dh5 billion.

According to Aldar, key retailers such as House of Fraser, PF Changs, Ted Baker and Rodeo Drive are gearing up to welcome customers at the upcoming mall launch. Located in the site of the old Central Market, a 12-acre single story market which was the centre of all business and trading when Abu Dhabi first started growing as a city in the early 1970s.

“Aldar has created a retail centre that captures both the tradition and modernity of Abu Dhabi for residents and visitors, a unique shopping environment in Abu Dhabi. Our focus has always been on creating spaces designed to fit in with the lives of our customers and we feel that The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi is a wonderful reflection of this philosophy,” said Talal Al Dhiyebi, Director of Planning and Infrastructure at Aldar Properties.

On Tuesday, Aldar and Dubai-based construction major Arabtec Holding announced at the ongoing realty exhibition ‘Cityscape Abu Dhabi’ in the capital that they have reached an agreement wherein Arabtec will take a long-term lease for all of the World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi commercial tower being developed by Aldar.

“The next 12 months are going to move Aldar’s retail business onto a whole new level,” said Fred Douglas, Aldar’s Director of Retail Leasing.
