Dubai: Palm Utilities has concluded the first phase of a project to supply cooling to the Atlantis on Palm Jumeirah Crescent and Jumeirah Lake Towers, the water and district cooling utility service provider said on Monday.

The projects, when concluded, are expected to provide 120,000 tonnes of refrigeration to Palm Jumeirah Crescent and 140,000 tonnes to the Jumeirah Lake Towers.

The projects form part of the utility's expansion programme and would provide fully integrated and efficient utility services to the developments.

"Moreover, we have carefully designed these district cooling plants to offer the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly utility solutions," said Palm Utilities chairman, Ahmad Butti.

In order to optimise the use of water, treated sewage effluent (TSE) would be used where possible to operate the district cooling plants.

The TSE is expected to be supplied by Palm Water and would be polished in specially designed plants, a method expected to reduce the need for potable water for the cooling process and one which allows the blowdown to be further used for irrigation purpose.

Palm Utilities delivers a complete cooling solution by building and operating strategically located district cooling plants and integrated networks, which ensure reliability.

The company was established to address the region's unique requirements in the critical areas of District cooling, and waste water treatment.

It has implemented a comprehensive expansion program and intends to pursue new core business activities within other utilities, including sustainable energy and environmental waste management.

We have carefully designed these district cooling plants to offer the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly utility solutions."
