Khalifa City plan awaits approval

A Dh6 billion development plan for the extension of Khalifa City (A) was presented by KEO International Consultants and still awaits approval from Abu Dhabi Municipality, company sources said on Tuesday.

Abu Dhabi: A Dh6 billion development plan for the extension of Khalifa City (A) was presented by KEO International Consultants and still awaits approval from Abu Dhabi Municipality, company sources said on Tuesday.

The development comes as an extension of the existing Khalifa City, in the vicinity of the new capital outlined in the 2030 policy agenda of Abu Dhabi, and provides for services and facilities to complement the exiting development of about 5000 villas.

"The area is lacking any services or recreational facilities, and hence our proposal includes a shopping complex and social facilities such as a men's club and a women's club as well as a multipurpose recreational area, in addition to a business district and townhouse complexes," Uwe Nienstedt, project development director at KEO told Gulf News.

"The costs so far are rough estimates, and are mostly related to the infrastructure, while the municipality is still yet to decide on the course it will take, by developing the plots itself, or offering opportunities for private investors, or selling land plots," Nienstedt explained.

About 70 plots comprise the development area which is located 25 kilometres from Abu Dhabi's city centre, between Al Raha Beach and Khalifa City (A), and the timeframe for accomplishment is about five years.
