Abu Dhabi: Consolidated Contractors International Company's (CCC) current order book in the UAE has projects worth about Dh2.569 billion ($700 million), one of its best markets in the region, a top company official said on Wednesday.

He said the company does not expect very fast growth despite a robust construction sector in the UAE due to some problems such as limited sub-contractors and availability of construction material.

The Athens-headquartered company, with offices in 40 countries and ranked 17th worldwide, is one of the leading construction companies in the Middle East.

"We have several major ongoing contracts in the UAE especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Our projects in hand total about $700 million presently," said Munif Mahmoud, General Manager, Civil Projects, CCC.

"The market here is huge with plenty of projects available but we cannot sign up for all because we need sub-contractors. Construction material also should be available readily when you take up projects," he told Gulf News after an awards ceremony.

CCC, the principal contractor for the Al Mamoura project in Abu Dhabi, received an award from developer Aldar Properties, whose safety initiative achieved one million man-hours with zero injuries.

Al Mamoura is the location of the new headquarters for Mubadala Development Company and the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi.

The project, valued at approximately Dh360 million, is due for completion in phases, with the main office building to be ready by July 2007, said Raffy Astour, Aldar Safety Manager, who also won an award. CCC employs more than 900 labourers at the site.

Some of CCC's projects in the UAE include the Dh3 billion Dubai Mall, the Capital Tower in Dubai, the Jebel Ali Power Station (L) and the $400 million and $300 million projects at Habshan and Ruwais in Abu Dhabi respectively.

CCC's manpower in the UAE is over 15,000.
