A total of 2.1m travelled through the airport from January to March 2013
Sharjah: Sharjah International Airport recorded a 15.71 per cent increase in passenger traffic in the first quarter of this year marking its busiest three months ever.
A total of 2.1 million travelled through the airport from January to March 2013 compared to 1.8 million in the same period last year. The aircraft movements were up 1.22 per cent in the first quarter of this year to reach 16.602 compared to 16.402 in the same period of 2012. Freight handled for the same period this year was 76.498 tonnes.
“As the numbers clearly suggest, robust passenger traffic growth continues. This is being driven by the efficiency of procedures, excellent services, and the strategic location of Sharjah International Airport,” said Ali Salim Al Midfa, Director General of Sharjah Airport Authority
He said that the ongoing projects carried out by the airport, will contribute to stimulate the companies operating at Sharjah International Airport and will increase the capacity of the airport.
