Picking their pockets
Baggage handlers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will need to wear uniforms without pockets in a bid to stem pilferage at the country's premier gateway.
Manila: Baggage handlers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will need to wear uniforms without pockets in a bid to stem pilferage at the country's premier gateway.
According to Angel Atutubo, general manager for security at the Manila International Airport Authority, MIAA had started implementing a "no pocket" policy for all employees assigned at the ramp baggage loading areas at the three NAIA passenger terminals since Friday.
Atutubo said this new directive comes ahead of the seasonal rush of passengers during the Christmas.
"Most of the passengers coming for Christmas to the Philippines will be bringing in presents and we will make extra efforts to ensure that these items, especially check in baggage, are secure from pilferage," he was quoted by the Philippine daily Pilipino Star Ngayon.
According to Atutubo, stripping pockets off uniforms of baggage handlers will prevent unscrupulous personnel from filching items because they would have difficulty hiding their stash.
