Dubai: Etihad Airways is set to boost its summer Geneva service from June 22 as a result of increased demand from leisure travellers wishing to visit Switzerland's second biggest city.
Presently, Etihad operates four flights a week from its Abu Dhabi home-base to Geneva which will increase to five a week with an additional flight operating every Sunday until September 7.
Geneva was one of Etihad's first destinations with flights to the Swiss city starting on June 5, 2004, only seven months after the launch of the airline's first flight.
During the summer months it is one of Etihad's most popular routes with an average seat factor of 85 per cent.
In addition to its position as one of Europe's most popular summer destinations, Geneva is also a host city for the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament, which has led to greater demand from holidaymakers looking to visit the city.
Etihad operates a three cabin Airbus A330-200 to Geneva, which is configured to carry 10 passengers in first class, 26 passengers in business class and 164 passengers in economy class.
The additional summer flight, EY051, will depart from Abu Dhabi every Sunday at 2.35pm and arrive in Geneva at 7.25pm local time. The return flight, EY052, will depart from Geneva at 9.50pm and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 6.05am the next day.
