Dubai: Etihad Airways has introduced e-ticketing, the electronic document that will replace conventional paper tickets.

Etihad has implemented the e-ticketing system following a successful fast-track project undertaken over the last four months.

"E-ticketing will enable Etihad to enhance the relationship with our guests by simplifying the way they organise and book their travel," said Peter Baumgartner, Head of Marketing, Etihad Airways.

"Guests will be able to obtain their e-ticket using minimal time and effort, regardless of how they are booking their travel," he added.

The introduction of the new system has also ensured that Etihad will comfortably meet the IATA's deadline for all airlines to use e-ticketing only, which is scheduled for the end of 2007.

In order to ensure the new system will operate as planned, Etihad recently conducted trials with employees on selected international routes. "E-ticketing once again demonstrates Etihad's ambitions to provide our guests with a stress-free travel experience, whether on the ground or in the air. Over the next 12 months we will unveil many additional initiatives which support our overall customer relationship management and direct sales strategy," added Baumgartner. When checking-in for a flight, Etihad guests simply need to present their passport and e-ticket confirmation number.

The relevant boarding passes are then issued, and the guests can check their luggage in, and proceed through security to the departure gate area.
