Emirates to assist in set-up of new Dubai based budget airline
Emirates Airlines will help to set up Dubai's new low cost airline, the company said on Wednesday.
Dubai: Emirates Airlines will help to set up Dubai's new low cost airline, the company said on Wednesday.
The new budget carrier will be run by Ghaith Al Ghaith, who will step down from his position as Executive Vice President Commercial Operations Worldwide at Emirates in the near future.
However after assistance during the set-up stage, it will operate as a separate brand and will not be part of the Emirates' Group.
The airline will begin operations within the next year and initially fly to destinations within the GCC and neighbouring countries.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group and the new company said: "Emirates will assist in the formation of Dubai's new low-cost airline up to its first flight.
“I am confident that with Ghaith as the CEO, this new airline will be very successful. The Emirates Group will assist him in forming the new company and will continue to give all support as required up to its inauguration."
