San Fransisco: Emirates Airlines has executed the world's longest green journey during its inaugural non-stop flight which carried 197 passengers and crew members from Dubai to San Fransisco on Monday.
“After months of planning, Emirates' Environment flight has become the best-practice of how airlines, governments, manufacturers, technology providers and airports can work together to be as eco-efficient as possible,'' Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, told the press at San Fransisco Airport shortly after the landing.
“The San Francisco inaugural flight is a dual milestone of commencing services between two great cities and also demonstrating the best our industry can offer in environmental efficiency. We have made a multi-billion-dollar investment in new state-of-the-art eco-efficient aircraft, and the flight will help us to further improve our environmental performance,'' added Shaikh Ahmad during the conference which was also attended by Nigel L. Page, the Emirates' Senior Vice President Commercial Operations, The Americas,
Emirati Captain Ahmad Mohammad Al Shamsi, Vice President-Standards Flight Operations, Emirates Airlines, who flew the 15.20-hours-long non-stop journey told Gulf News it was a tremendous experience to fly EK 225 flight-Boeing 777- knowing it's the longest and first cross-polar green flight.
"It has been a brilliant experience flying the most environmentally-sophisticated route and trip possible to help save an estimated 2,000 gallons of fuel and 30,000 pounds of carbon emissions on the non-stop service. It feels great to have flown this trip… I studied in the United States 28 years ago and I'm accustomed to the flying zone herein. The new trend in this green flight was the gradual descending through conserving fuel and reducing emission and which is a major factor in preserving the environment,'' said Captain Al Shamsi who clarified that the San Fransisco flight wasn't his first inaugural flight with Emirates.
He also explained that the new feature in this flight was the special pre-flight pressure wash to reduce friction in the air for a cleaner environment.
