Emirates and Jet sign unilateral code sharing pact

Emirates airline and India's Jet Airways have announced a partnership plan covering a unilateral code share agreement and a reciprocal frequent flyer arrangement.

  • The deal allows Emirates passengers travelling between Mumbai and Dubai to use the Dubai airline’s four daily flights in addition to Jet's daily service.

Dubai: Emirates airline and India's Jet Airways have announced a partnership plan covering a unilateral code share agreement and a reciprocal frequent flyer arrangement.

Beginning December 15, Emirates will unilaterally code share on Jet Airways' daily flights from Dubai to Mumbai and New Delhi, giving travellers better connectivity and an expanded range of services between India and the UAE.

Emirates passengers will have the option to travel on its four daily flights, as well as on daily Jet Airways service between Mumbai and Dubai. Likewise on the New Delhi-Dubai sector, Emirates will offer its customers the choice of 25 flights per week with its aircraft and an additional seven flights per week on Jet Airways.

Jet Airways flights on these sectors will be identified with its '9W' code as well as with the Emirates 'EK' code.

Jet Airways flight 9W 544 (EK 6670), operated with an Airbus A330 aircraft offering 30 business and 190 economy class seats, will depart from Mumbai at 6.45pm local time daily and touch down at Dubai International Airportat 8.30pm.

The return flight 9W 543 (EK 6671) will depart from Dubai at 10pm local time and arrive in Mumbai at 2.20am the following day.

Flight 9W 548 (EK 6680), operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft, will take off daily from New Delhi at 6.30pm local time and land in Dubai at 8.50pm. It will depart from Dubai at 10.35pm and arrive in New Delhi at 3am the following day.

Skywards members

The two airlines have also launched a reciprocal frequent flyer arrangement that allows members of the' Skywards programme to earn and redeem miles on Jet Airways flights operating within India.

Salem Obaidalla, Emirates Senior Vice-President of Commercial Operations, West Asia, Indian Ocean and Africa, said: "The agreements between Emirates and Jet represent a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between our two airlines and between India and the UAE.

"The pact will enable us to offer passengers enhanced flexibility and at the same time it will boost trade and commerce between the two countries."

Wolfgang Prock Schauer, chief executive of Jet Airways, said: "Dubai is an important market for Jet Airways and there is significant demand from our customers to travel to and beyond Dubai. We are expecting the services to be extremely popular.
