Delta, Northwest airlines approve merger deal

Delta, Northwest airlines in deal to create world's largest airline

Last updated:

Atlanta: Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines have agreed on a merger deal that would create the world's largest airline.
Officials said that if approved, the merger can benefit customers by offering competitive fares and more flight choices.

Delta CEO Richard Anderson will head the merged carrier, which will retain the Delta name, according to a statement on Monday.

Northwest's pilots' union opposed the proposed merger, complaining that Delta and its pilots' union had come to their deal without the pilots' input.

The Atlanta-based combined airline and its regional partners will offer flights to nearly 400 destinations in 67 countries.
