Sharjah: The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has announced a 12.8 per cent increase in the total number of trade licences issued and renewed in the first half of 2008, compared to the corresponding period in 2007.
The number of licences issued and renewed in 2008 thus far is 26137, while the number for the first half of last year was 23,170.
The SEDD continues to flourish, boosting the private sector’s contribution to the rapidly growing economic activities across the trading, service and industrial sectors by offering a host of incentives and facilities for the creation of an investor-friendly climate, thus attracting increasing number of investors.
Statistics show that the department has issued 3,657 new licences between 1 January and 30 June 2008.
These licences were divided into three categories: Commercial licences amounted to 1,606 of the total number of licences issued, professional licences to 1,979, and industrial licences to 72, for 17.9 per cent growth in the number of new licences issued in first half of 2008, compared to the 3,102 new licences issued in the corresponding period in 2007.
